LINDAL A will fancy their chances of promotion in what is set to be a hard-fought Alan Myerscough (Ford) Ulverston & District Bowling League Division Two.

The villagers set their stall out with a 13-1 win over Barrow Island. Peter Davey and Dave Dickinson showed that experience on the green is vital, both winning 21-6 while John Hulston save the whitewash for the Islanders with a 21-19 win.

Another team expected to pick up plenty of points at home are Kirkby, however this week they turned it on away, returning from Walney Park A 11-4 winners. Geoff Leatherland was outstanding, winning 21-4, with Peter Lee weighing in with a 21-9 victory of his own. Ray Visick and Alan McMurray were top winners for the Park.

Dalton CC A looked like gaining promotion with their first team for most of last season. Visiting Roose A, they found themselves in a real battle, but took the game 9-6 thanks to good wins from Craig May, Martin Ryder and Norman Burns, with Wayne Buchannan taking the sweep for the Cons.

Glaxo A will be strong contenders this year as the strengthening of the first team has had a knock-on effect and they had an impressive12-2 win at home to Police. John Whiteway was unstoppable with a 21-2 victory in a game where four others also gained single-figure wins. Ron Nicholson and Ken Lindow were in the winners enclosure for the Police.

West Shore found a Salthouse A side in form when they visited Raglan Street with the home side running out comfortable 11-3 victors. Darren Mountford 21-8 and Peter Sullivan and Ian Leach 21-9 were the pick of the Salthouse winners, while Steve Hunter replied for the Shore with a 21-7 victory.

Kings Head have been trying to scratch a side together, but this did not stop them recording a great 10-4 win over Askam A this week. Dave Gilmour and Rob Tooze had 21-3 and 21-4 wins respectively to help them on their way. For the village side, Bill Askew rolled back the years with a 21-7 victory.

West Mount made the short journey round the corner to visit Hawcoat Park A and despite quality performances from Steve Holmes 21-10 and John Cross 21-11 they fell to a 10-4 defeat. Leonard Case ran out a comfortable 21-6 victor for the home side, with George McFarlane and Anthony Woods backing him up with 21-10 wins.
