Liam Howard and Stewart Turnbull showed their class in the King Alfred Memorial Pairs last Sunday, as they defeated Chris Irvine and Zac Walker in the final.
En route to the final, Howard and Turnbull had wins over King Alfred bowlers all the way, as they defeated Peter Harris/Bill Higginson, Wendy Holmes/Jenny Dyer and Eddie Backhouse/Paul Hewitson before edging past Ben Wright and Dave Jones 21-20 in the semi-finals.
Irvine and Walker had made their way past Billy Thompson/Alan Asbury, Billy Thornton/Paul Kissock and Dave Staunton/Tony Gooding before their semi against Tony Whitehouse and Barry Lowden went to the wire (21-20).
The final was also a tight affair and was tied at 10-10 after 12 ends before Irvine and Walker took command to open a 15-10 lead.
But Howard and Turnbull cam storming back to win the next four ends and take the title with a 21-17 victory.
