FURNESS Phantoms are looking to boost their numbers for the 2019 BAFA National League season by hosting a rookie try-out day later in the month.

The Ulverston-based Phantoms are open to players of any level of experience, even if they have never played American football before.

Last year, the Phantoms had their most successful season to date, reaching the play-off quarter finals of the National League after winning four and losing four of their regular-season matches in NFC2 Central.

Chairman David Hughes said: “We’re still recruiting and we want guys to come down and try a new sport. It doesn’t matter what size the lads are, whether they’re big or small.

“It also doesn’t matter how fit you are, as we will have a position for you. Qualified coaches will take you through your drills and get you up to speed.

“We’re also looking for help with ball boys during our games and with sideline staff.”

It is just over a week until the Phantoms get their campaign under way, hosting Morecambe Bay Storm at GSK Sports Club next Sunday in ‘The Battle of the Bays,’ with kick-off at 2pm.

In addition to the rookie try-outs, regular training sessions take place on Wednesdays at 6pm and Sundays at 10.30am.
