Striker Dior Angus won’t be available for Barrow AFC’s match at Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow after suffering a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury.

Angus was originally named on the bench for last Saturday’s home game against Boreham Wood, but the Port Vale loanee was forced to pull out after the warm-up, as his ankle still didn’t feel right.

That was two-and-a-half weeks after the problem forced him to come off in the first half of the Bluebirds’ victory at Wrexham and the 25-year-old has been encouraged to let it heal fully before trying to return again.

Manager Ian Evatt said: “I think with there being so little games left he just tried to rush back to try and earn himself a contract for next season.

“I can’t criticise the player for that because it’s so good and refreshing to see that he’ll do everything he can to get on the football pitch, but at the same time he needs to make sure the injury has healed properly.

“He needs to be able to do himself justice when he gets back on the pitch and, at the minute, the ankle’s not quite there.

“He needs to be patient, he needs to keep working hard, give it time to settle and I’m sure we’ll see him again before the end of the season, but for now he won’t be available.”

Club captain Josh Granite could be included after playing 70 minutes for Barrow’s under-21s against Lostock St Gerards on Wednesday night in what was his first action since January.

However, despite Connor Brown, Jacob Blyth, Rhys Turner and Brian Wilson all nearing fitness, none of that quartet will be ready to face the Daggers.

Evatt said: “It’s good to have people on the periphery again; Brian Wilson is almost returning, Jacob Blyth is almost returning.

“Dior is not far from returning, Connor Brown is back running on the pitch, Rhys Turner is running on the pitch, so I think possible next week or the week after we’ll have more or less a fully-fit squad to choose from.”
