HAWCOAT Park's final home game of the season ended in defeat as visitors Whitehaven returned up the coast with a 29-13 win from this Cumbria Shield clash.

Missing several of their big guns up front, Hawcoat had their work cut out against a well-drilled visiting pack and the likes of Rory Sayle, Brad Morrow and vice-captain Andy Kent worked hard in defence early on.

Whitehaven took the lead soon after when good support play from their back row led to him scoring a try which was converted.

Hawcoat got back into the game though and when captain George Smith kicked a 30-metres penalty it was soon followed by Callum Ramsay setting up Paul Woodburn for a try converted by Smith to put them ahead.

The away side kept plugging away though and a second converted try, this time coming when their centre found space, saw them lead 14-8 at half time.

It was a similar story after the break and 15 minutes into the second half, Whitehaven moved further ahead when their number eight got a third converted try and they added a penalty-goal as well.

The Maroon & Whites were not done yet though and good work from Benji Platt and Morrow led to Chris Burns finishing out wide for an unconverted try.

Injuries to Scott Kaighan and Park man of the match Grady Slater left the home side light for the closing stages though and Whitehaven secured the bonus point with a late unconverted try.

In Cumbria Two, Windermere stormed to a 43-15 win away to bottom side Wigton Wanderers, moving up to third in the process.

However, Furness' game at home to Carlisle Crusaders and Millom's match against Aspatria Eagles at Wilson Park were both postponed.
