Roose Pioneers under-15s beat the awful weather last Sunday to defeat Ashton Bears Blacks 36-10 in the North West League.

Pioneers kicked off into a cross wind that didn’t seem to favour any team, but Pioneers led when Cohen barged his way over from close range despite the attention of three defenders.

Cohen then tore through the line after a great hit and spin on the first defender to touch down for his second try of the day and extend the lead to 12-0.

Next up was the try of the game, as a great inside ball from Archer found Coxon who ran strongly and drew the full back before putting the supporting Archer in under the sticks.

The Bears had woken up and some great yards from Reeves and Watson saw them knocking on the door.Swift hands orchestrated by March saw Davis in at the corner.

Archer then took the game by the scruff of the neck and a neat little midfield chip and regather saw him in for a try under the sticks for his second, he duly converted for 24-4.

Ashton then hit back again when Marsh put in a neat little grubber kick to the corner for Cottington to race through and touch down.

The next try was all important for both sides and a great carry by Wright followed by Roberts jumping out of dummy half put Archer on the burst, he powered his way through and finished with pace to complete his hat-trick.

There was one more try left in the Pioneers, as Cohen pounced from close range after Farren had been held up just short of the line to complete his a treble of his own and round off a good team performance from the hosts.
