ALLAN Edmondson’s dominance of the Barrow Friday League individual billiards crown shows no sign of abating after he claimed the prize for the ninth year running.

The finals night at Edmondson’s home venue of the British Legion saw him taking on clubmate Alf Carruthers and the former got the scoring going with an early 13 break.

It was not long before Carruthers replied with an 11 break, but Edmondson was first to the 50 mark after being helped by a 20 break.

Then it became nip and tuck up the scoreboard, with Edmondson keeping his lead to around 30 points up to the 100 mark until he knocked in a 22 break to take him 50 points clear.

Carruthers pulled up a little with smallish breaks, but Edmondson pulled away again with 13 and 14 breaks, and kept his lead to around 60 points.

Then he went into express mode, knocking in 20, 23 breaks and a 12 to take him near the 250 finishing post, which happened a few small breaks later to win 250 -125 and claim yet another billiards title.

British Legion A’s Paul Fieldhouse claimed more home success on the green baize by beating Legion cueman Mike Smith 4-2.

A break of 37 helped Smith take the first frame, but the second frame saw a complete reversal, with Fieldhouse going into an early lead and his opponent conceding when he potted the brown to make it 53-26.

He carried that on in the third, potting the last red with a black to win 42-13, but conceded the fourth when Smith potted an excellent long brown in the bottom pocket to level the match at 2-2.

It was all Fieldhouse after this, though, taking all the next colours, including a 15 break, to pinch the fifth 43-35, and he followed up by sealing the sixth frame, the match and the title by sinking the blue and pink.

Mike Fletcher won the darts competition without dropping a single leg, beating Shaun McPoland 4-0 in the final with two ton scores and a 121 knock-up.

Fletcher booked his place in the final with a 3-0 win over Keith Moscrop, while McPoland beat team-mate Dave Macmillan by the same scoreline in his semi.

Vickerstown Cricket Club pair Alan Edwards and David Holmes beat Fieldhouse and Macmillan in the cribbage final by 16 points, while Legion A’s Alan Reid and Billy Bowes beat Roose Cons pair Bob Taylor and John Rawlinson 2-0 in the welch don final.

Next week’s games at the British Legion will be the Ted Phizacklea four-man team darts semi final and final between British Legion, Navy Club, Vickerstown Cricket Club and BFSC.
