ETHAN Doyle was the star of the show for Barrow ABC when they held their annual show at Cloud Nine on Saturday evening.

The popular event once again saw a sell-out crowd, with the 12-contest card featuring everything from young boxers taking their first steps in the sport to a national finalist topping the bill.

The town's three professionals Liam Conroy, Mike McGoldrick and Ross Cooksey – all graduates of the Brook Street gym and soon to be joined by Paul O'Relly – were in attendance too and proclaimed Doyle the fighter of the night.

Doyle was involved in an enthralling contest with Carlisle Villa's Gary Johnston, taking the fight to his opponent straight from the opening bell in the three-rounder.

He gave Johnston a bloody nose for his troubles with some accurate punching too, but the Carlisle man had some success as well before Doyle was declared winner by split decision.

Lewis Symon took a split decision victory too after a close-fought contest with another boxer from Carlisle, Border City ABC's Rogan Marshall.

Cameron McBain was the first winner of the night for Barrow, taking a points victory in his match-up with Border City fighter Josh Graham.

McBain established his presence early on by rocking Graham with an overhand right and went on to secure the win following a final round which saw both boxers going toe-to-toe.

Elsewhere on the card, Tia Davies was up against Bolton Lads & Girls Club's national Development Championship winner Cindy Ngamba.

Davies – a former national semi-finalist in the novice championship herself – gave as good as she got against Ngamba, but it was her opponent who did enough to take a unanimous decision win.

Will Hinde took on a fighter from the Bolton club as well in Ishy Khan, who used his height and reach advantage to good effect to take a unanimous win.

Another Barrow boxer who was up against a champion was Ethan Holt, who faced Huddersfield Gladiators' Sandrino Mirga.

The Yorkshire champion proved a tricky opponent and took a unanimous victory.

One of Barrow's national Development Championship runners-up James Braithwaite was top of the bill, but took a standing eight-count in the first round and suffered a unanimous decision loss to his opponent from Border City.

It was a similar story for Andy Miles, who was given a count in the second and saw Carlisle Villa's Peter Houten get the verdict in their clash.

Matt Currie and Houten's clubmate Cain Quinn looked very evenly matched in their contest, but the away fighter got the verdict from the three judges, with Louis Smith losing out on points to Marc Haughan.

Meanwhile, Barrow youngsters Ryan Jones and Annika Saltiga kicked things off with skills bouts against Villa pair Leighton Nimmo and Gabby Hodgson.
