Striker Jack Hindle is still looking to surpass his goal tally from last season, after he moved into double figures for this campaign by scoring Barrow AFC’s winner at Eastleigh last Saturday.

Hindle, who was named in the National League’s Team of the Week yesterday, is in his first season with the Bluebirds after signing from Colwyn Bay last summer and has seven games left to reach his target.

His strike in the 1-0 victory at the Spitfires was his first since Boxing Day, but it wasn’t the finish of a player on a goal drought, as he ran on to Josh Kay’s excellent long pass before calmly rounding the goalkeeper to score.

Hindle does insist, however, that he is not fixating on how many goals he ends up with, preferring instead to try and help AFC to finish the season strongly.

He said: “I’ve had a little target in my head and now I’m in double figures in the league, so that’s ten for the season.

“It’s just frustrating when you’re not scoring, but so long as you’re winning games, that’s the main thing. It doesn’t matter who’s scoring so long as we’re winning the games.

“I got 13 goals last year and 13 the year before, so I’d like to beat that this year and get 14.”

On his decisive goal at the Silverlake Stadium, Hindle, who could have scored again late on, added: “It was a nice ball from Josh - I’d just seen him and as soon as he’d looked half a yard up with his left foot I thought ‘I’d better get on my bike early.”

“I kept onside and took it round the ‘keeper, but I’m disappointed with the second one – I should’ve taken that, but it was nice to get a goal, the first one of the year.”

The result at Eastleigh meant a perfect end to a superb week for Barrow, who have now won their last three games to consolidate their place in the top half of the National League.

Hindle said: “This is why we do it. To have Aldershot at home, Wrexham away and Eastleigh away has been tough, but it just goes to show the team spirit.

“I think the way we’ve trained this week has helped – everyone has looked after us, all the staff, especially Callum [Walters] and Ollie [Howse].

“We were down to the bare bones, with injuries, but fair play to the young lads, especially Nathan [Reid] who came on for Blythy early on, but that team performance was as good as it gets.”
