Manager Ian Evatt was thrilled to see Barrow AFC back up their superb midweek result with another fine performance in their 1-0 victory at sixth-placed Eastleigh.

If anything, Evatt was more impressed with this result at the Silverlake Stadium, which was secured by Jack Hindle’s first goal since Boxing Day, than Tuesday night’s 3-1 victory at Wrexham.

That’s understandable, as the Spitfires’ recent form in the National was better than that of the Dragons, with seven wins in their previous eight games propelling them in the National League play-off places.

However, they barely looked like cancelling out Hindle’s strike against an injury-ravaged Bluebirds, for whom striker Nathan Reid didn’t look out of place on his debut, despite his five-league step up from Holker Old Boys.

Following his side’s third win in a week, Evatt said: “For me, that was better than Tuesday because it would have been easy after that performance to come off the gas and have a long trip down here and feel sorry for ourselves.

“They might have felt a bit tired, with us having a lot of injuries etc, but the performance was magnificent.

“First half, we picked them off at will, at times, got the goal, but the way we dug in and defended – Eastleigh are a big, physical team and they play a hell of a lot of balls into the channels, over the top and a lot of set-pieces.

“But the way we kept a high line, kept brave, kept them up the pitch because no-one can really run our back three, especially the two wider ones, they’ve got electric pace.

“It was hard for them to hit those areas and then Joel [Dixon] was sweeping in behind and we did that fantastically well.

“We then kept brave, we didn’t sink back and we didn’t hang on to a lead. We kept on going, probably should have finished it off at the end, but it’s a fantastic week of football and I’m really delighted with the boys.”
