South Lakes men’s 1st XI suffered their tenth defeat in 11 games in the North West League Division Three North last Saturday, as they lost 5-1 at home to Bury.

For the second time this season, Lakes’ defence were unable to handle Jack Marshall-Grint, who scored four of the visitors’ goals, with the other strike going to James Larmett.

All this after the hosts had taken the lead in the early stages, but any hopes of picking up just a third win of the campaign were quickly dashed.

South Lakes ladies’ 1st XI were edged out 3-1 on their travels against Liverpool Sefton 2nd XI in Division Two North West of the North League.

It was a busy weekend for Windermere men’s 1st XI, as they were on double duty in North League Division Two West, and they came out of it with four points.

They opened with an encouraging 2-2 draw at home to league leaders Urmston, with the match level at 1-1 at the break, after the visitors had cancelled out a deflected opening goal for captain Will Dolman.

A massive Jimmy Dunlop aerial set up Steve Heyns for a thumping second from a tight angle only for Urmston to draw the match from a short corner.

Windermere were quickly in action again, but they showed little sign of fatigue in defeating Didsbury Northern 2nd XI 6-3 on Sunday, with Dolman and Adam Whitehead both scoring twice.

Dolman again opened the scoring before Whitehead doubled the lead with a signature spin and flick but a penalty stroke for Didsbury halved the advantage.

Jack Sorrenson restored the two-goal lead, but the visitors hit back to level the match before Mere upped the intensity through strikes from Dolman, Whitehead and Archie Dalzell.

The men’s 2nd XI picked up a victory as well, as they defeated Kendal 2nd XI 2-1 in the North West League Division Five North North, with both their goals coming from skipper Teddy Ferguson.

The weekend wasn’t quite so fruitful for Windermere ladies’ 1st XI, who were missing several key players, as they went down 6-0 against a strong Lancaster University in the Premier Division of the Lancashire Central League.

The ladies’ 2nd XI were victorious, however, as they defeated Ambleside 2nd XI 2-1, thanks to two goals from Lucy Ellwood.
