THE Cumbria Shield resumes for Hawcoat Park tomorrow as they hosts St Benedicts, writes Jason Meadows.

The Maroon & Whites are missing some players, but have a strong team nonetheless and it all starts in the front row with Andy Kent, Adam Grainger and Mike Gibson looking for the upper hand in the set piece.

John Donnan continues in the second row with his partner Rory Sayle, and good-looking back row takes to the pitch in the guise of Ash Mowatt, Callum Ramsey and Grady Slater, who will be keen to get plenty of ball in hand early doors.

The link between forwards and backs will be in the hands of regular half-backs Jack Shannon and Scott Kaighan, with centres Lewis Sayle and Benji Platt more than capable of breaking down the defence in front of them.

Captain George Smith will look to fellow backs Jack Lord and Rodney Odondi to back him up in both attack and defence.

Millom are at home in Cumbria Two as they look to put Wigton to the sword. The home side have had some great results recently so they will be looking for more of the same in this outing at Wilson Park.

With only four games left of the season, Millom have a good chance of finishing the season off strongly.

Returning Danny Redhead, Kieron Rogan, Ian Cummings and Dean Doyle will strengthen the pack and will look to get the home side on the front foot.

Coach Adam Redhead will want his backs to have the ball as much as possible and to express themselves with open, free-flowing rugby.

John Falconer, Sy Roberson and Robbie Patterson have been in great form since Christmas and they will look to test bottom-of-the-league Wigton.

Windermere head to Workington Zebras and although the hosts are 30 points ahead in the table, they are likely to be missing several of their cross-code players.

This could mean it is a good day for the Ambers, with Johnny Benson leading Mere from loose forward and the side is once again unchanged.

Ollie Askew, Adam Hague, Luke Todd, Dan Harrison, Jamie Hardman, Phil Murphy and John Langford comprise the rest of the pack, while half-backs Bertie Hodgson and Liam McKinnon will aim to get quick ball to the backs.
