Barrow AFC have announced Liam Reid as the new head of their Performance Centre, after a decade with the club.

Reid has been coaching since he was 16, when he began helping at Holker Old Boys, while he also worked for former Bluebirds midfielder Neil Doherty at InsideOut Soccer from 2007.

Two years later, he began working under Doherty again as a community coach at AFC, meaning he has been with the Performance Centre ever since its formation.

He has also worked as live match analyst for the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) for the last four years, covering games in the Championship and below.

A qualified primary school teacher, Reid has been working for St James CE Junior School since 2014, while he is currently studying for his UEFA B License.

Reid said: “I’m very humbled and privileged to find myself in this position. I’ve been involved since the centre’s creation, when we started with 16 players, so to now work alongside all the staff to look after approximately 200 players is an honour.

“Meetings with directors have been very positive and we are all excited to share our curriculum and vision for the direction we wish to take with the full support of the hierarchy.

“Meetings will be organised shortly with parents and players to engage views and for myself, Craig Rutherford and club director Mark Hetherington to share the vision.”
