GARETH Jones’ 500th goal helped Dalton United into the semi-finals of the West Lancashire League Challenge Cup as they beat hot favourites to win Division Two, Horwich St Marys Victoria, 3-1 at Railway Meadow.

Dalton did the damage in the first half with Danny Leech, Robbie McMurdo and Jones all finding the back of the net before the half-time cup of tea.

Matty Lawlor struck late on to put Ulverston Rangers through to the semi-finals of the Presidents Cup following their 2-1 home win against Eagley.

Jack Gardner fired the hosts ahead midway through the first half but Eagley levelled the tie with 10 minutes left on the clock.

However, Lawlor popped up to grab the winning goal with only a couple of minutes left to play.

Askam United are out of the same competition on the back of a 4-0 defeat at Lostock St Gerards.

In the West Lancs Premier League, Vickerstown picked up another three points on the road by beating Southport Hesketh 2-1.

Jackson Round and Danny Keenan were the men on target for Dave Round’s side.

The day’s Division One action saw Millom beat Crooklands Casuals 5-0 at Hannah Field. Harry Cowley, Jordan Williams, Jamie Pattinson, Nathan Dryden and Oliver Pachul shared out the goal-scoring duties for the hosts.

Hawcoat Park’s promotion hopes took a blow as they lost 3-2 at lowly Milnthorpe Corinthians. Elliott Moore scored both of Hawcoat’s efforts.

In Division Two, Furness Rovers beat Mill Hill 2-1 on the Training Pitch thanks to goals from Jason Corkan and Liam Shields.

A JP Stanway goal was not enough to stop Holker Old Boys slipping to a 3-1 defeat away to Bacup Borough in the North West Counties League First Division North.

Holker are still out of the relegation zone and have a game in hand on the team below them, Daisy Hill, however.

In the Furness Junior Cup, Coniston progressed to the next round at the expense of Bootle reserves as Ben Dugdale (2) Scott Edmondson, Mike Thistlethwaite and Jake Biles all scored in the 5-1 win.

Holker Old Boys A joined them in the next round as they beat Ulverston reserves 3-0. with goals coming from Tom Park, Yaya Zada and Will Speirs.

Swarthmoor Social reserves are also in the hat for the draw after they beat Britannia Res 2-0.

Askam United reserves also made it to the second round following a 2-1 win against Croftlands Park reserves.

Cartmel & District A will be hoping for a good cup run too on the back of a 3-0 win away to Millom reserves.
