A 3-0 whitewash of clubmates British Legion saw British Legion A crowned as the Barrow Friday League’s 2018/19 snooker champions with three rounds of matches still to play.

Billy Burns took the first game with a 62-21 win over Jack Arnold, top man John Tyerman got the better of Mike Smith 54-33 and Dave Simpson sealed the win with a 52-16 win over Legion captain Alf Carruthers.

The Walter Floyd Memorial Trophy will therefore be going to Legion A for the seventh time as they cannot now be caught at the top of the standings.

Elsewhere in the snooker, Roose Cons were on a roll too, taking all of their games away to Barrow Football Supporters Club thanks to Lee Majors, Dave Kewley and Nick Wilkes

Vickerstown Cricket Club were 2-1 winners against Navy Club B. Josh Francis and Peter Scott, who came from behind on the last three colours, took the home side’s wins and Dave Wilkie replied for Navy.

Legion A are on their way to claiming the darts title too after defeating their clubmates 7-0 as Keith Moscrop (2x100), Alan Fraser (125, 2x100 scores), Dave Macmillan (100), Dave Simpson, Tony Macmillan (118) Steve Hetherington (123, 100) and Mala McCoy all triumphed.

Navy B were on good form on the oche too, triumphing 6-1 over Vickerstown with wins for Ian Large (100), Gareth Willis, Joe O’leary (140), Dave Rafferty (140), Chris Kirkby (117), Dave Simpson (124) and Dave Wilkie.

BFSC were 5-2 winners over Roose Cons, with Mike Fletcher winning twice, and Mike Edwards (100), Barry Butterworth and Jimmy Christie picking up victories.

Legion A are closing in on the welch don crown too after winning 7-3 against Legion. Meanwhile, Vickerstown and Navy B drew 4-4 and Roose Cons won 6-4 against BFSC despite the games being shared.

In billiards, Legion A triumphed 2-1 as Paul Fieldhouse and the week’s only treble winner Hetherington won the race to 100. Allan Edmondson got one back for Legion.

However, Legion are still three points ahead of the A-team at the top of the standings.

Vickerstown took a 2-1 win at home to Navy B as well thanks to Scott and Willis, with Paul Kyle getting Navy’s point.

Jimmy Wilson and their top man helped Roose Cons to a 2-1 win in the other billiards match of the night, while Rob Chissim got a point back for the Soccer Bar side.
