MILLOM’S Coral Challenge Cup run came to an end on Saturday after they were beaten 26-0 by NCL Premier Division outfit Siddal, writes Elliot Burrow.

Both teams started the game very strongly and Siddal might have considered themselves lucky to keep 12 men on the pitch after Millom’s Jonathan Hodgson was caught off the ball by Danny Williams with a late shot, however nothing was given.

It was Siddal who struck first midway through the first half when they broke out-wide with a quick passing play before Gareth Blackburn managed go over to score and convert his own try.

Millom responded well, but they just could not get near the Siddal tryline. The lack of field position proved costly on 32 minutes when Siddal benefited off Millom knocking on within their own 10 metres to score underneath the sticks through Fred Walker, with Blackburn again converting.

If there was going to be any chance of a Millom comeback in the second-half, they would have to strike early on. However, it was the visitors who scored again when Danny Williams shrugged off three tacklers to score out wide.

Things got even worse for the home side on 58 minutes. This time, Ben Hinsley powered over from close range to score.

The home side did begin to get their fair share of chances, but even when they did make a break through Ethan Kelly, the visitors managed to stop him.

Siddal ended the scoring on 62 minutes when George Ambler charged over the line from a crash ball and Blackburn slotted the conversion.

There were worrying signs at the end of the game for Millom’s man of the match Noah Robinson after he suffered a concussion and had to be helped off by the physio.
