FOUR tries from the visiting full-back helped condemn Hawcoat Park A to a 38-17 defeat at home to Aspull 2 in the North West Intermediate League Division Four North.

The first score came on nine minutes, with Aspull’s 15 breaching the back line for a try which was converted, but Hawcoat hit back when Jason Milby broke and fed support-runner Scott Garnett for an unconverted try.

Garnett was involved in the Maroon & Whites’ second try too, going down the blindside from a five-metre scrum and sending winger Adam Armstrong over for another unconverted score.

The next 20 minutes saw Aspull with a lot of ball from scrums and lineouts, with Hawcoat keeping the opposition from scoring with some solid tackling until the 35th minute when the Aspull full-back scored his second try – which this time went unconverted.

From the restart, the same player ran through Hawcoat’s defence from his own 22 to score under the posts, with the conversion following.

Hawcoat managed to get on the scoresheet again two minutes before half time thanks to a fine solo run from Lewis Sayle, cutting through the Aspull defence to dot down and add the conversion to cut the deficit to 19-17 at half time.

It remained that way until the 57th minute when Aspull’s number eight crashed over out wide from close range despite the best efforts of several Hawcoat defenders, followed by the visiting full-back making it a hat-trcik with a converted try.

Hawcoat were unable to score again and the Aspull full-back had the final say with his fourth try of the contest, racing in from 80 metres for a score under the posts which was successfully converted. League leaders Vale of Lune 4 visit this Saturday.
