WALNEY’S sports ground looks set to be leased to Vickerstown Football Club in a new 10-year deal.

The council-owned facility has been the home ground for the club after the lease was originally granted to the Park Vale Users Association and the club.

But that lease has now come to an end and the West Lancs League outfit plan to take it on for a decade at a cost of £8,000 a year, supported with a grant from the council. The decision is expected to be ratified at a meeting of Barrow Council executive on February 6.

A report said: “The previous lease of the ground, originally granted to Park Vale Users Association and then latterly to Park Vale Users Association/Vickerstown Football Club, has now expired and Vickerstown Football Club have requested a new lease.” Councillors will be asked to give the council’s commercial estates manager the authority to proceed.
