South Lakes ladies’ 1st XI came so close to ending their losing streak in the North League Division Two North West last Saturday, as they were narrowly defeated at home 2-1 by Formby.

Emma Armstrong struck for third-from-bottom Lakes, who are only just keeping their heads above water.

However, goals from free play from Anna Rutherford and Sophie Dixon, allowed Formby to claim the spoils and condemn the hosts to their eighth straight defeat.

It wasn’t such a close-run thing for South Lakes men’s 1st XI, however, as they were heavily beaten 8-1 by Kendal in Division Three North of the North West League to keep them second-from bottom, six points adrift of City of Manchester 2nd XI.

Lakes’ weekend was redeemed somewhat by their men’s 2nd XI picking up their fourth win of the season, as they comfortably defeated Kendal 2nd XI 4-0.

Alec Glaydon, Lee Storey, Oliver Kenrick and Daniel Davey were the scorers for South Lakes, who moved up to ninth in Division Five North North.

Windermere men’s 1st XI are now seventh in the North League Division Two West as they earned a 3-1 win at home to Crewe Vagrants to chalk up their second win in a row.

Mere had to work had for their openings, with some crisp passing and sharp movement off the ball, and their patience paid off as Adam Whitehead and James Kirkpatrick opened up a two-goal lead.

Crewe pushed forward in numbers and managed to pull a goal back, but they left themselves open at the back as they chased an equaliser.

This led to Josh Bellis breaking away, rounding the last visiting defender and fed Archie Dalzell, who sealed the result with a simple tap-in.

A very costly 12-minute spell led to Windermere ladies’ 1st XI being defeated 4-0 by Pendle Forest 2nd XI in the Premier Division of the Lancashire Central League.

Aside from that, Mere matched their hosts and came close to opening the scoring through Lucy Staniek, but after Pendle struck from the top of the D, they quickly closed out the game before half-time.

The men’s 2nd XI were on the wrong end of a ten-goal thriller, as they were beaten 6-4 at Fylde 3rd XI, despite two goals from Teddy Ferguson and further strikes from Gonzalo Lucas and Jason Balmer.
