IT has been a season of somewhat contrasting fortunes for derby rivals Millom and Askam United, who clash at Hanna Field in West Lancashire League Division One tomorrow.

Millom are comfortably mid-table in the division with games in hand on all of the sides above them after winning promotion last year, along with enjoying a run to the last 16 of the Lancashire Amateur Cup.

That came to an end last Saturday with a 3-2 defeat at home to Elton Vale, on the same day Askam were beaten 7-0 by league leaders Lytham Town.

Neil Park’s side will be out to make amends for that as they bid to claw their way up the table, along with avenging the home loss to Millom earlier in the season.

There is an intriguing derby at the top of Division Two, with third-placed Dalton United hosting fourth placed Walney Island.

Both have games in hand on the top two of Horwich St Mary’s Victoria and Croston Sports, but both know a win would see them claw back valuable points on the frontrunners in the promotion battle.

In the North West Counties League First Division North, Holker Old Boys kick off a busy period away to Chadderton.

There are two outstanding first-round fixtures to be played in the Furness Senior Cup as well, with Holker’s reserves at home to Swarthmoor Social and Vickerstown reserves hosting Barrow Wanderers.
