Georgia Stanway has been named in the England women’s squad that will meet up for a training camp in Qatar later this month.

The 20-year-old Barrow-born striker is one of 28 players that will fly out with the Lionesses for the eight-day camp at the Aspire Academy in Doha next Tuesday.

The squad’s first get-together of 2019 is part of England’s preparation for next month’s SheBelieves Cup in the United States, as well as this summer’s Women’s World Cup, which takes place in France.

It was in that country where Stanway shone in the Under-20s equivalent last summer, when she scored six goals to share the Golden Boot in helping England to third place, their best-ever finish in the competition.

Since then, she has enjoyed a very successful season with Manchester City, who have nine players in the Lionesses’ training squad.

A purple patch of six goals in three games in October led to her receiving her first senior international call-up and she marked he debut for Phil Neville’s side by scoring the second in England’s 3-0 friendly victory in Austria.

Stanway is set to be in action for City on Thursday night, when they host Brighton & Hove Albion in the quarter finals of the FA Continental League Cup.

She also played in the 1-1 draw against Bristol City last Sunday that dropped Nick Cushing’s team two points behind leaders Arsenal in the Women’s Super League.
