STEVE Hetherington helped British Legion A strengthen their grip at the top of the Barrow Friday League darts and don standings as one of the week’s treble winners.

Hetherington (100) helped Legion A to a 7-0 whitewash of Vickerstown Cricket Club on the oche, with captain Shaun McPoland (110 knock-up), Keith Moscrop (100), Dave Macmillan, Dave Simpson, Tony Macmillan (120) and Mala McCoy triumphing as well.

He was then involved as they won the don 6-4, and picked up a win over David Holmes at billiards. Tony Macmillan sealed the 2-1 win for Legion A against Peter Scott, with home captain Gareth Willis having put his side ahead by beating Billy Burns.

Simpson and Burns ensured Legion A made it a clean sweep in all four games by winning their snooker matches against Jimmy Allen and Scott respectively. Josh Francis beat John Tyreman to pick up a point for Vickerstown.

Roose Cons enjoyed the best result of the night on the snooker table, winning 3-0 against Navy B thanks to Dave Kewley, Nick Wilkes and Lee Majors.

Navy responded on the billiards table by whitewashing the home side, with in-form Paul Kyle, captain John Clamp and Ian Large all winning the race to 100.

Navy were in superb form on the oche too, scoring a 7-0 whitewash thanks to Large (100), Ian Goodwin (100x2), Dave Rafferty (100), Dave Wilkie (101, 100), Chris Kirkby (100), Joe O’Leary (100) and Andy Charnley (135, 100).

Roose had the better of it in the table game though, winning the don 7-4 against the second-placed side thanks to the pairings of Ray Cooney and Peter Roberts, John Warburton and Jimmy Johnson, and Mike Irving and Nick Wilkes.

British Legion kept up the pursuit of clubmates Legion A in the snooker thanks to a 2-1 win at home to Barrow Football Supporters Club. Jack Arnold and Alf Carruthers were their winners, with Adam Cook knocking in all the colours to take BFSC’s point.

BSFC’s treble-winner Denis Plant won the first billiards match, but another treble winner in Allan Edmondson and Tony Norman sealed a 2-1 win for Legion.

The away side scored a 5-2 win at darts, with captain Mike Edwards showing the way with 100 and 140 scores, and an 87 knock-up. The other winners were Mike Fletcher (140x2), Jimmy Christie, Plant and Alan Bonner.

BFSC had the edge at welch don though, emerging 6-5 winners in the table game.
