LEIGH O’Donnell and Tez Nueto both wowed the crowd at Manhattan’s Nightclub with stoppage wins in their respective caged boxing matches.

O’Donnell faced a change of opponent in Jason Hyde on the undercard of the title fights for Barrow mixed martial arts pair Ryan Thomas and Ash McCracken, and wasted little time in getting stuck in.

A combination of heavy shots and fast hands saw O’Donnell take control of the fight and he was declared winner after Hyde was retired by his corner at the end of round one.

Nueto took just 1min 7secs of the first round to overcome Kameron Lynch in his contest, sending his opponent to the mat with a single punch from which Lynch did not get up from in time.

The evening began with 13-year-old Troi Gibney making his debut in an X-K1 kickboxing contest against Lewis Goodall and an enthralling three-round contest saw the Barrow teenager take a split-decision win on the judges’ scorecards.

Jamie Fitzpatrick and Danny Fereday both scored stoppages in their X-K1 contests.

Fitzpatrick felled James Bennie early on in their bout with a right kick to his opponent’s left knee and he was unable to beat the referee’s count.

It was a similar story for Fereday, who landed two kicks to the left knee of Andy Davey to stop him after just 24 seconds in the first round.

Matthew Dack was taking on Pal Skaufjord, who had travelled all the way from Norway, in his 90kg amateur MMA contest.

Both were making their debuts, but unfortunately for Dack he was stopped in the second round as Skaufjord was able to make him submit via rear naked choke.

Jarek Bitner (MMA) suffered a unanimous decision defeat as well, but Jordan Fisher (caged boxing) was another local success.

“I think everyone fought well on the show and there were some good wins for Barrow lads,” said Thomas. “They showed a lot of heart as well and the young lad Troi, who fought in the first fight, he was quality.

“It has given us a bit of a boost for the next one on April 27. It’s given us a boost to kick on and everyone is buzzing.”

The other fight of the night saw TFT’s Tyler McKenzie score a first-round stoppage win over HAMMA’s Jonny Dolan in a junior X-K1 bout.
