THE Barrow Friday League reclaimed the inter-league crown after defeating the Monday League 16-11 in this year’s match-up at the British Legion.
The Friday league dominated the snooker matches, starting with top man John Tyerman making a 25 break in getting the better of team-mate Steve Hetherington.
Adam Cook won the second with a good break of 34 to beat Peter Scott, but Jack Arnold pulled one back for the Monday league in a tight frame against Ray Gardner, winning 54-45.
Mike Smith making it three points for the Friday League with a comfortable 72-20 win over Monday League captain Jamie Thompson and the star of the night Steve Redpath made a 41 break en route to beating Tony Macmillan 75-9.
It was much closer in the billiards matches, with the Friday League edging to a 3-2 victory.
Allan Edmondson got the night going with a 100-58 win over Alan Harris, followed by Colin Taylor levelling with win over Denis Plant.
John McGoldrick sealed the next game with a 100-67 win over David Holmes, only for Brian Sharp to roll back the years and beat Macmillan to make it all square.
However, Kevin Quinn sealed the final game of the night against Monday captain Hetherington, edging him out 100-82.
The Monday League were on form in the darts, taking a 5-3 victory which was kicked off by top man Neil Knight. He opened with a 140 and hit three more tons in his win over Edmondson.
Dave Macmillan (100) and Billy Bowes, who had the highest check-out of the night with 45, Tony Macmillan and Alan Fraser sealed a comprehensive win, with the Friday League replying through Mike Edwards (100), Bob Crosthwaite and Ray Gardner (121, 125).
The table games saw the Friday League on top form as well, with the pairings of John Warburton and Jimmy Johnson, Paul Fitzpatrick and Bob Crosthwaite, and Alan Bonner and Barry Butterworth securing a 3-2 win at welch don.
They were 3-1 winners at cribbage too, the highlight of which was Quinn and Carruthers winning all three of their games.
Along with inter-league pride being at stake, the night raised hundreds of pounds to benefit charities in the area too.
Barrow & District Disability Association were presented with a cheque for £500, while cheques for £200 were handed to Hospital Funds for Furness and the Tuesday Handicapped Club.
Close to £24,000 has been raised for charities in the past 24 years and the two leagues intend to renew the rivalry with another match in November 2019.
