Connor Brown feels Barrow AFC’s players have been letting the coaching staff down, as they look to finally bring their losing streak to an end at Aldershot Town tomorrow.

Ian Evatt’s side travel to the Recreation Ground just three points above the relegation zone in the National League after a terrible run that has seen them tumble to 17th in the table.

The Bluebirds will be desperate to end what is their worst run since April 2012 when they make the 300-mile trip to Aldershot, particularly with high-flying Wrexham due to visit Holker Street the following Tuesday.

Brown, who was signed during the summer from York City, claims the players feel all the more responsible because this is Evatt’s maiden season in management, with this the first sticky patch he’s had to negotiate.

Brown said: “The gaffer and Pete [Atherton] work hard all week to get the best out of us and the training sessions are good.

“Everything is good for us and, at the minute, we’re letting them and the fans down because we’re not producing what we really should be producing.

“It’s down to us as the players to stand up and be counted for, especially in these types of runs, where we’re needed.

“We all feel bad for the gaffer because the ethos that he’s brought into the club has been very good and we’re letting him down.

“It’s his job on the line if we don’t start producing – I’ve been there before where a manager has got sacked and it’s not a nice feeling, so we need to step up and make sure that doesn’t happen to the gaffer because he doesn’t deserve it.”

If AFC’s performance at Ebbsfleet, where they were extremely unlucky to lose, was a step forward, then the 3-0 reverse against Eastleigh last week definitely felt like two back, with the defeat the heaviest of the season so far.

They hardly ever looked like finding a way back into the match and the fact that they didn’t find the net meant they have now drawn a blank in three of their last four league games.

But with strikers Rhys Turner and Jacob Blyth back from injury and gaining match fitness, Barrow do at least have some extra firepower to call upon in the weeks ahead.

Brown said: “Obviously Blythy was going to be one of the main strikers at the start of the season, but he got injured and he’s had some really bad luck.

“Thankfully, he’s on the mend now and hopefully he can come good for us and help us out.

“We were disappointed with how last weekend went, but there’s another game coming up on Saturday and you can’t let it dwell too much because you’ll let it affect your next performance.

“We’ve gone over the bad bits and it’s been about putting those right in training this week just being positive going into the game.”
