RYAN Fieldhouse has made the switch from Barrow Raiders to Cumbrian rivals Workington Town on a two-year contract.

The full-back joined the Raiders for the 2016 season and went on to make 80 appearances over three seasons, scoring 41 tries and helping the club to a League One Cup and promotion double in 2017.

However, the signings of Tee Ritson and Stargroth Amean, plus Luke Cresswell closing in on a return from injury, meant his playing opportunities at Barrow in 2019 were likely to be limited and Fieldhouse has now moved up the coast to League One side Workington.

“I had three great years at Barrow, winning promotion and playing in a great team,” said Fieldhouse, who joins former Raiders Ollie Wilkes and Andrew Dawson at the club.

“I was approached by a number of Championship clubs, but when Town approached me and I spoke with the coaches about the team they were putting together, I jumped at the chance.

“Town went so close (to promotion) last season and the chance to win more silverware, and the chance to help get the club back up to where they belong, is a great opportunity.

“The club seems to does all the right things on and off the pitch and I can’t wait to get started.”

Barrow head coach Paul Crarey thanked Fieldhouse for his efforts during his time at Craven Park and is in no doubt he will prove an asset to Workington.

“Ryan was very good for us in the three years he was with us, and was very professional,” said Crarey. “We wish him all the very best of luck with Town.

“I personally had a very good relationship with him. He talks a good game and with the squad they are putting together, he’ll be the one to help them get over the line.”
