Invading a football pitch is an act that is usually frowned upon, but it is something that is being actively encouraged by the Bluebirds Trust tomorrow.

The Trust are launching their Share Contribution Scheme, as they attempt to get Barrow AFC supporters to band together and buy a 10 per cent stake in the club.

AFC’s interim chairman Paul Hornby made it clear that shares would be left for the fans to purchase, should they want to be part of the new ownership model that he is currently putting together.

Earlier in the week, Trust chairman Steve Herbert confirmed in a statement that this was an avenue the group were looking to pursue.

After getting permission from the club, the Bluebirds Trust, along with the Bluebirds’ players and staff, are encouraging the Barrow community to gather on the hallowed Holker Street turf at 1pm, two hours before the home game against Eastleigh kicks off.

“The theme of the campaign is ‘Be Part of It’ said Barrow fan and the Trust’s new website and marketing designer, Ste Story: “and that’s what we want to show- our togetherness as a club, off and on the pitch.”

The event will begin shortly before the ‘invasion’ itself at the Cross Bar, which has recently been given a spruce up, after the departure of former owner Paul Casson three weeks ago.

It is there that everyone will gather before heading towards the tunnel, from where they will enter the pitch and launch the scheme in the centre circle of the pitch.

Barrow manager Ian Evatt is in full support of the Trust wanting their say in how the club is run, saying: “The supporters trust, and Steve Herbert, have been magnificent with me since I joined the club and have been really supportive.

“Any fans of any club are the heartbeat of the club and they should definitely have a say in what goes on.

“It’s great that the supporters trust are clubbing together to get a stake in the club so that they can have their say because they spend their hard-earned money week in, week out following us the length and breadth of the country.

“They deserved the right to have an opinion and it’s great that they are doing that, so hopefully they can get behind the campaign that the Trust are putting together. Hopefully we can all push forward together.

“I urge all Barrow fans to come out and support this excellent campaign and support myself and the players.”

After 20 minutes on the pitch, the campaign will return to the Cross Bar, where further information will be given out and Share Contribution Certificates will be available to purchase, both in the club and Trust shops.

Bluebirds Trust board members will be on hand, should supporters who attend the launch have any queries.
