Luckless Barrow AFC striker Jacob Blyth will be praying for a change of fortune after he made his comeback from his latest injury in last Friday’s friendly against the club’s under-21s.

What kept the 26-year-old out of action is as yet unspecified, but he was able to take to the field for the second half at Holker Street.

Blyth had suffered more than his fair share of injuries before his arrival during the summer and his Bluebirds career began with a dislocated shoulder, following a collision with a wall during a pre-season friendly against Furness Select in July.

After catching up on his fitness from that setback, he had been building up his minutes with a series of sub appearances before his most recent spell out, which lasted around a month.

Barrow captain Josh Granite said: “We all know what Blythy can do for the team and he has been seriously unlucky with injuries so far this season. He’s been training fully this week with many of the lads, so he just needs to get some sharpness, some fitness and his confidence back and he’ll be a big player for us.”

Blyth was one of four strikers missing from AFC’s most recent match at Ebbsfleet United, with Jack Hindle the only front man available to manager Ian Evatt.

“You can’t write it sometimes,” Granite said, adding: “But we are getting people back and it’s just about getting an 11 out on the pitch that’s going to get us a result on Saturday.”
