MIKE McGoldrick could not be happier with how his first year in the professional ranks has gone after making it three wins from three against Lewis Van Poetsch on Friday evening.

The Barrow ABC product’s final outing of 2018 saw him take a 40-37 points win at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse.

That meant McGoldrick had achieved all three of his aims when he stepped up from amateur level and he is delighted with a successful year.

“My original goals were: finish the year unbeaten, finish the year without uninjured and have three fights, and I’ve smashed them all,” said McGoldrick.

“I’ve got no injuries, I feel fine, I feel I could step up to some more rounds and it’s been a great first year as a professional.”

McGoldrick was cheered on by some strong travelling support too and was grateful for everyone who has given him their backing.

“You can’t hear individual things that people shout, but you can hear when the noise raises and it usually raises when you’ve landed a few good punches, so it spurs you on,” said McGoldrick. “But you’ve got to keep composure as well and know when you’ve landed some good shots.

“It’s half me training and half the support, because without the support you don’t get fights. The promoter needs these people here to make shows happen, so you need that support and I’m thankful for every single person who has bought a ticket and all of my sponsors who have helped me get this far.”

McGoldrick also thanked sponsors NC Meats, Cumbria Strength & Conditioning, Kade Kendall at the Unit Body, DS Fitness, James Henry Tyson, massage therapist Sian May, Subplot Records, Furness Tiles & Flooring, and Goldbeck Racing.
