Defender Kyle Jameson endured a tough time on the field for Barrow AFC last week, but his performances have still been praised by his teammates and manager alike.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan from West Bromwich Albion, looked calm and composed, overall, as he stepped into the breach at centre-back, with the Bluebirds going through an injury crisis.

Jameson was involved in a couple unfortunate moments, however, that did prove costly for AFC, with his luckless own goal in the 4-2 defeat at Harrogate Town last Tuesday triggering a second-half collapse.

He then saw his one mistake of the match at Ebbsfleet United, for which he received a late call-up, punished by Danny Kedwell, whose goal turned out to be the only one of the game.

Barrow midfielder John Rooney said: “He’s a young lad and he wasn’t meant to be playing – he came into the team in the warm-up because Josh Granite got injured.

“It was the only mistake he made and other than that he played very well.

“Obviously one mistake cost us, but as a young lad, he got on with things after his mistake and played his normal game, which I think is a good sign in a young player.”

Like several other young players in Barrow’s squad, Jameson is getting his first experience of first-team football at Holker Street this season, although he’s had to be patient for his chances at times, with the two games last week his first match action in just over a month.

His manager Ian Evatt said: “Kyle, mistake apart, did very well [at Ebbsfleet]. Obviously, he wasn’t going to start the game until Josh got injured in the warm-up and that wasn’t ideal, but that’s the way things are going at the moment.

“He’s a young player and he’s suffering at the minute because he’s made mistakes in the last couple of games, but he’s had his chance and, other than that, he was outstanding.”
