South Lakes ladies’ 1st XI had to come through a busy weekend where they had to play two matches in the North League Division Two North West.

Their gruelling schedule began last Saturday morning when they travelled to Longridge and although they fought their hosts all the way, they eventually went down to a 2-1 defeat.

Within 24 hours, South Lakes were welcoming Northern to Ulverston in a game rearranged from last month.

What followed was one of their most dramatic fixtures of the season so far, with the match ending in a 4-4 draw.

Thankfully this weekend will be a little lighter for their players, with them only needing to play one match, a good thing considering they’ll be facing league leaders Fylde 2nd XI at home.

The 1st and 2nd XIs of South Lakes men’s were both up against their Southport equivalents on Saturday, with the 1s falling to a 3-1 defeat away from home in the North West League Division Three North.

Brian Elder’s goal from free play proved to be in vain, as Jonny Caton and Connor Jameson both struck for Southport before Russ Garner added a third from a penalty corner.

It was a long afternoon for the 2nd XI, as they were hammered 6-0 at home by a Southport side who moved to the top of the North West League Division Five North North after administering the thrashing.
