JAMIE Thompson produced the performance of the round in the latest Barrow Individual Snooker League as he bounced back to defeat Tony Mason 4-2.
League debutant Thompson was beaten 6-0 in the first meeting between him and Mason, although every frame went to the colours as Mason found it tough to overcome the newcomer’s handicap.
It was a different story in the return match though as three 30-plus breaks helped Thompson secure the win, with Mason’s highest break being 48.
Kyle Brown scored the highest break of the round, knocking in 68, along with two 50-plus runs, during his 6-0 victory over Adam Cook.
The first match between Tom Millington and Tommy Barbour saw the honours shared at 3-3, with Millington making a 58 break and Barbour two breaks in the 30s.
Millington won the return on Barbour’s home table at the Greengate Club though, triumphing 5-1. However, Barbour did have the consolation of winning his frame with a 54 clearance.
Danny Macdonald kept his good start to the competition up with two 5-1 wins over Jack Arnold. He made a 51 in the first match, along with knocking in three 30s in the return fixture.
Neil Aspinall made two 20 breaks in defeating Alan Eaton 5-1, although it was all square in the return fixture which ended 3-3.
Paul Deelay and John Tyreman drew 3-3, with the former making a highest break of 31 and the latter knocking in runs of 35 and 34.
Martin McDonald got the better of Steve Waddington 4-2 in their first match, but the return fixture was all square at 3-3 and saw McDonald make a highest break of 40.
A break of 48 helped Matty Hill beat Anthony Atkinson 5-1 in their first meeting. However, Atkinson fought back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 in the return match with breaks of 33 and 29.
