BLAIN Marwood’s outstanding season for Barrow Island was recognised as he picked up the National Conference League Division Three player of the year award.

Marwood was nominate along with Millom prop Ethan Kelly and Lewis Poskitt, of champions Beverley.

However, Marwood’s work in helping Island earn promotion saw him pick up the honour, which was presented by St Helens’ Cumbrian star Kyle Amor, at the NCL’s end-of-season awards night at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford.

The 20-year-old picked up the award for being joint-top try-scorer in the division as well with 28, sharing the honour with scrum-half Poskitt.

The honours complete an impressive year for Marwood, who was also named man of the match for Cumbria when they faced the BARLA Great Britain Lions at Distington in a recent warm-up for the Three Counties Series.

Marwood is likely to be involved again when the county get their tri-series campaign under way against Yorkshire at York Acorn this Saturday, with the under-19s in action on the same day as well.

Those matches and the other Three Counties fixtures, including Cumbria’s home games against Lancashire at Millom on November 10, will be streamed live on the RFL’s OuRLeague app.

Meanwhile, there was good news for Furness Raiders’ Jack Crarey after a disciplinary committee decided he had no case to answer over his recent dismissal.

The loose forward was sent off in the College Rugby League season opener at home to Salford Red Devils Rising Stars after a biting allegation was made against him.

However, the charge was dropped as the committee found no evidence against him.
