NICK Cushing believes there is plenty more to come from Georgia Stanway after the Barrow hot-shot kept up her recent scoring form for Manchester City Women.

The 19-year-old made it six goals in seven appearances for City so far this season when she rifled home a 33rd-minute opener from around 25 yards out in last Friday’s FA Women’s Super League game at home to Reading.

Stanway and her team-mates ultimately had to settle for a share of the spoils as Jade Moore equalised just after half time, but City manager Cushing was pleased with the striker’s performance.

“She’s (Stanway) playing well, she scored, and she played well against Reading,” Cushing told Manchester City Women’s official website.

“I think she’ll be disappointed that we didn’t get three points though, she’s a real team player.

“I think we have players at the minute who are in form, Georgia and Nikita (Parris) have goals in them and I thought we were getting the ball forward and creating moments.”

Among the spectators at Manchester Regional Arena was England Women boss Phil Neville and Stanway’s strike will undoubtedly have caught his eye.

Neville will soon be naming his squad for the upcoming friendlies away to Austria and at home to Sweden on November 8 and 11, with Stanway’s form meaning she is likely to be in contention for a call-up.

But the former Dowdales School pupil, who starred for the national team at this summer’s Under-20 World Cup, is not getting carried away over the prospect of achieving her ambition of representing England at senior level.

“If England happens to come my way I’ll embrace it,” Stanway told BBC Radio Manchester. “It’s my dream, so hopefully I’ll make it possible.

“I’m going to control what I can and keep working to achieve what I want.

“I know that I’m still only 19 and I’ve just come back from the Under-20 World Cup, which was an unbelievable experience.”
