SEVERAL young Leven Valley AC runners had a successful home race in the opening event of the Mid-Lancs cross-country season at Ulverston.
Will McNally made the most of a blistering start in the rainy conditions by keeping his lead and winning the boys’ under-11 race in a time of 8mins 9secs. Ethan Harvey, of Hoad Hill Harriers, came 11th in 8.51.
Leven Valley were particularly impressive in the girls’ under-13 category with Jessica Bailey (9.52) crossing the line first in a close finish, with her club mate Georgia Bell (9.55) finishing third.
Unfortunately, they did not have a third team member to help them win the team competition.
The third winner was Olesia Winder, who finished out in front in the girls’ under-15 race by just two seconds, with Laura Brown (11.24) of Barrow & Furness Striders impressing in fourth.
Hoad Hill Harrier Connor O’Hara had a great run in the boys’ under-17 race by finishing in fifth in 25.03, with Barrow & Furness Striders Taylor Gill (26.15) and Sam Jackson (26.19) coming 10th and 11th respectively.
Other stand-out performers were Mahya Mohan (Barrow & Furness Striders, 9.20), who finished sixth in the girls’ under-11s and Edward Sargent (Leven Valley, 10:57) who came ninth in the boys’ under-15s.
