Departing managing director Andrew Casson has promised his family will continue to follow Barrow AFC from afar, after their four-year ownership of the club came to an end this week.

With owner Paul Casson announcing on Wednesday he was stepping down, in the wake of the FA Cup defeat at Chorley, it’s set to be a pivotal few months at Holker Street, with the board, led by interim chairman Paul Hornby seeking new investors.

Andrew Casson will play no further part in the transition, as he will leave his role, which he had held for 18 months, after Saturday’s home game against Barnet.

He admits that the time-consuming nature of the job left him drained at times - particularly towards the end of last season, when AFC were almost relegated from the National League.

However, he will continue to be interested in how Ian Evatt’s side are getting on after he moves back to Texas to be with his family at some point in the next month.

Andrew Casson said: “There’s no doubt that every Saturday morning – it’ll be a 9am kick-off over there – we’ll be turning on [BBC] Cumbria Sport and listening to it and following the flash scores.

“My dad will be communicating with Paul and Russ [Dodd] and Ryan [Sutherland] and staying abreast of things.

“At the end of the day, we want to make sure that what happens, as most businesses do, is you compile a lot of knowledge and experience about how things work and what you would have done differently.

“You want to be able to pass those lessons on, so you know that mistakes aren’t repeated and hopefully the club will go from strength to strength.

“We’ll be paying close attention to how the club’s doing and just hoping that we can finish in the play-off places this year and then hopefully stabilise and finish the job that we wanted to do.

“That is build a team and keep 11 or 12 individuals into next season and really push hard for promotion.

“It’s a bit disappointing to leave it ‘midstream’, but it’s the best thing for the plan, overall.”
