While Barrow AFC were left to stew on an afternoon they’ll want to quickly put behind them, one of their former strikers was able to wax lyrical about a Chorley comeback that he completed.

Marcus Carver had two spells on loan at Holker Street from Accrington Stanley, first in 2013 then in 2015, and he was one of two former Bluebirds to haunt their old club at Victory Park.

Fellow old boy Louis Almond capitalised on a Rhys Norrington-Davies error to equalise halfway through the second half before Carver put the Magpies in front for the first time just three minutes later.

The 24-year-old hinted that Barrow had become complacent after Tyler Smith had put them 2-0 ahead right on half-time.

Carver said: “Obviously the lads have been unbeaten so far and to go in at halt-time 2-0 down, with the goal just before half-time giving them the heads up and they thought they’d won it, to be fair.

“We knew what we had to do and we came out fighting and obviously getting the goal in the first three or four minutes boosted our chances.

“But we’re a team that never says die under our manager and we’re flying and we just want to keep going and get through to the next round of the cup.

On his winner, Carver added: “I had a couple of chances where I hit the keeper, but you’ve just got to hit the target and by doing that you’re going to score at the end of the day.”
