GEORGIA Stanway has reiterated her aim of earning a place in the England Women senior squad after firing a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 6-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Women’s Super League yesterday.

The former Dowdales School pupil opened the scoring for City’s women at Broadfield Stadium on 21 minutes with a finish from outside the box, followed by a long-range effort in the 64th minute and a low shot from the edge of the area to wrap up her treble four minutes later.

Stanway was one of the stars of this summer’s Women’s Under-20 World Cup in France and the 19-year-old from Barrow is eager to force her way into Lionesses manager Phil Neville’s thoughts for next year’s global gathering across the Channel.

“That is in my plans,” Stanway told Manchester City Women’s official website. “It’s something that I want to get one day, but I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing now, working hard and I think performances like this will hopefully put me in good stead.

“I’ll keep doing what I’m doing, I can’t do much more than I am so now it’s just about consistency and making sure I’m on top every game.

“It would be great to be involved. I had an unbelievable time away with the under-20s the summer just gone, so it would be unbelievable to do it with the senior team.

“So I’ll keep working hard, I’ll keep playing the way I’m playing and hopefully I’ll get a call up and see what I can do.”

Stanway’s treble against Brighton took her tally to the season for nine so far in all competitions, with Caroline Weir, Nikita Parris and Claire Emslie getting the other goals for the visitors.

The result moved City up to second in the table, one point ahead of Birmingham City who were held to a goalless draw at home to Chelsea.

They are just one point behind leaders Arsenal as well, with the Gunners also racking up a 6-0 victory against Reading.

Stanway and her team-mates face a quick turnaround for their home game with Reading in front of the BT Sport cameras on Friday evening, and the striker hopes they can replicate the performance against Brighton.

“We had a lot of the ball and created a lot of chances, and I think when you get more and more into the game you get more and more confident and you’re more willing to have a go,” said Stanway.

“I think that’s what we did against Brighton and that showed even more in the later stages.

“I’m really happy, but like I say, it’s a team performance. I’ve done my job as has everybody else, and we’ll take this into Friday’s game against Reading and we’ll see what we can do then.”
