NAVY B enjoyed the most comprehensive win of the night, overcoming BFSC 22-9 as the Knockout Cup took centre stage in the latest round of Barrow Friday League fixtures.

On the snooker table, Joe O’Leary won 39-10 in a low-scoring game against Adam Cook. Steve Redpath potted well to give his opponent Dave Wilkie no chance in winning 65-14 and Andy Charnley beat Jimmy Christie 60-18.

At Billiards, Navy B took all three games, starting with Dave Simpson beating Jimmy Wilson winning 100-63.

Captain John Clamp won the second entertaining game 100-75 against Alan Bonner and Paul Kyle played debutant Redpath, running out 100-46 victor.

Highlight of the night at the oche was BSFC’s Mike Fletcher with a tremendous maximum 180 in his win over Clamp.

After that, it was one-way traffic for Navy as Dave Rafferty (100),Wilkie (135), Chris Kirkby (121), Simpson (100) and Charnley triumphed, with Steve Martin picking up BSFC’s other points.

The Navy side took seven points available at welch don, with all games finishing 2-1. Navy now lead the way in the Knockout standings by 41 points from second-placed British Legion A.

Last year’s cup winners Legion A were up against clubmates British Legion and got of to the perfect start in the snooker, winning all three games thanks to Dave Simpson, Bill Burns - who won on the black ball against Alf Carruthers - and John Tyerman.

Allan Edmondson and Kevin Quinn took wins for Legion at billiards, with Paul Fieldhouse pulling one back for Legion A.

Edmondson (133), Jack Arnold and Quinn got Legion off to a strong start in the darts, but Keith Moscrop, Mala McCoy, Dave Macmillan and Simpson earned Legion A a 4-3 win.

And the spoils being shared in welch don meant Legion A took a 16-11 overall win.

The hosts took the snooker 2-1 and the visitors the billiards by the same margin.

Vickerstown dominated the darts to win 7-0 - Gareth Willis (140), Brian Tucker (140,100) among the stand-out performers - but Roose pulled back the points at welch don.

The other match of the night between Roose Cons and Vickerstown CC ended in a 15-15 draw

Simpson (Navy Club), Quinn and Edmondson (both British Legion) were this week’s treble winners, all at billards, darts and don.

This week sees the individual competitions start at the various clubs, with the Friday League returning on October 26.
