Hawcoat Park A eased into the third round of the Robinsons Brewery Shield last Saturday, thanks to a resounding 36-0 away win at Bolton’s 3rd XV.

It took them just five minutes to open the scoring via a line-out drive that led to Jordan Bayliff grounding the ball.

Their second try was almost a copy of the first, with Rory Sayle this time getting the glory of scoring.

With back row Harrison O’Brien constantly gaining ground while in possession and busting through tackles, Hawcoat were able to keep themselves on the front foot and their third try soon followed.

Again, it came from a line-out, only this one was stolen from the opposition and it led to Paul Woodburn crashing his way over the line like a battering ram.

With the half-time whistle looming, Grady Slater got in on the act for the visitors by scything his way through the Bolton defence, with Euan James adding an excellent conversion from the touchline.

Resuming 22-0 ahead, Hawcoat struck again five minutes into the second half when Slater put in a superb kick down the wing for Keenan Cotton to chase down, pick up and score in the corner.

After some solid tackling from the likes of Peter Jennens, Martin Kennedy and Peter Matthews kept Bolton off the scoresheet, promising centre Connor Terrill rounded off the day for Park by scoring a try he then converted.

Hawcoat will face Bowdon 3rd XV in the next round on Saturday 1 December and they’re back in league action this weekend against Blackburn 3rd XV.
