LAST year’s play-off winners BFSC enjoyed one of two whitewashes of the night on the snooker tables in the latest round of Barrow Friday League fixtures.

Steve Redpath took the top man’s game against Navy B’s Joe O’Leary, and was backed up with good wins from Stuart Culbert against Dave Simpson, winning 57-24, and Adam Cook with a very similar score line against Andy Charnley to seal a 3-0 win.

Defending league champions British Legion A edged Roose Cons 2-1 thanks to Dave Simpson beating Nick Wilkes 58-29 and Billy Burns getting the better of Lee Majors 66-48.

But it is British Legion who lead the snooker league standings on eight points after beating Vickerstown CC 3-0.

Legion captain Alf Carruthers beat Paul Fitzpatrick 43-29, Keith Meloy took his game against Jimmy Allen with a win on the colours and Mike Smith sealed the final point in a 62-37 win over Josh Francis.

David Holmes got the crucial win for Vickerstown in the billiards as they beat British Legion 2-1. Peter Scott had got them off to a good start by beating Kevin Quinn 100-86 earlier in the week and Allan Edmondson replied with a 100-24 win over Vickerstown captain Gareth Ellis.

Tony McMillan, Alan Fraser and Paul Fieldhouse helped Legion A defeat Roose 3-0, and John Clamp and Paul Kyle picked up both points for Navy B in their 2-1 win against BSFC.

Navy B enjoyed the biggest win of the night on the dart board as well, triumphing 5-2 against BFSC thanks to wins from captain Ian Large (140, 100), O’Leary (121, 2x100), Dave Rafferty (2x100), Kirkby (2x100) and Andy Charnley.

Vickerstown top the darts standing though after a 4-3 win over Legion. Willis, Paul Fitzpatrick, Peter Scott (138) and Brian Tucker, who finished his game with a two-dart 100 knock-up, were the victors for them.

Only two games were played between Roose and Legion A - McMillan (138) beating Mike Irving and Andy Bircher beating Tony McMillan - with the rest to be played at a later date.

Legion A stormed to the top of the welch don standings with an 8-0 victory at Roose Cons, with Bill Bowes/Alan Reid, Walter Bowes/Dave Leech, Dave Macmillan/Mala McCoy and and Fieldhouse/Steve Hetherington the star pairings.

The other Legion team won 7-2 against Vickerstown, while it was much closer between Navy B and BFSC, with the former edging the contest 5-4.

This week’s fixtures: Navy B v Roose Cons, British Legion A v Vickerstown CC, BFSC v British Legion.
