Holker Old Boys celebrated playing in their 1000th North West Counties fixture on Saturday as they welcomed league newcomers Garstang to Rakesmoor Lane.

The landmark wasn’t marked in the grand manner, however, as Garstang ran out 4-0 winners.

The visitors were in no mood to party with Holker and they went two up inside the first 15 minutes, thanks to Alan Coar’s early brace.

Jake Salisbury made it 3-0 on the hour before Coar completed his hat-trick in the last minute to send Holker to a ninth defeat in ten league games.

There was better news in the West Lancs Premier League, though, as Vickerstown beat Haslingden 5-0 at Park Vale.

Jackson Round celebrated his birthday by bagging two goals. Danny Keenan, Ryan Rogers and Sean Paterson also on target for Dave Round’s side.

Division Two action saw Walney stay top of the table after a 5-0 win away at Longridge reserves.

Whilst the score line suggests an easy victory, it was anything but as the youngsters from Longridge played some great football for long periods of the game.

Walney showed a ruthless streak and goals from James Bailey (2) Matt Lockley (2) and a 25-yard thunderbolt from Zach Walker, who seconds earlier had missed an open goal, gave them the 5-0 win.

Dalton are a point behind Walney in second and they beat Kendal United 3-1, thanks to goals from Gareth Jones (2) and Danny Leech.

Furness Rovers won the local derby against Furness Cavaliers 2-1.

Ryan Fagan and Liam Shields put Rovers 2-0 up before Joe Blackshaw pegged a goal back for Cavs, who had a late penalty appeal turned away and had shouts for a goal waved away as the officials couldn’t confirm the ball had crossed the line.
