PAUL Crarey is waiting until the conclusion of the 2018 Betfred Championship season before sitting down with the Barrow Raiders board to discuss his future.

Raiders chairman Steve Neale recently confirmed he has offered the head coach a new contract, although as yet nothing has been agreed between the two parties as Crarey ponders taking his second spell at Craven Park into a fifth year.

Despite the issues faced both on and off the field, the former Barrow hooker has enjoyed the challenge of coaching in the Championship and hopes to get his future settled once the season concludes.

“We’ll get to the end of the year, have a massive rest and then hopefully sit down with the board and see where we’re at in terms of my future with the club,” said Crarey, whose side travel to Featherstone Rovers for the final game of the year tomorrow.

“We haven’t really talked about that yet because we’ve been too busy.

“We’re just pleased with how we’ve finished the year off and, for me, the end of the season can’t come soon enough.

“But I’ve really enjoyed this year in the Championship and it’s been a challenge on and off the field, but we’ve come through it.”

Crarey is enthused by the team the Raiders are building for 2019, hailing the signings of three-quarters Deon Cross and Jake Spedding from Rochdale Hornets and St Helens respectively.

And he added the club hope to unveil another exciting new signing early next week.

“Deon Cross is killing it for Rochdale now,” said Crarey. “He scored two tries last week, one of which was 90 metres, and Jake Speding is a class act.

“We’re hopefully announcing another one next week which will raise a few eyebrows because he’s a gun player, this kid.

“We’re excited about surviving and next year will be tough again because finances will be about the same, so we’ve just got to make sure everything is in place and we’re all right.”
