Millom managed to book their place in the National Conference League Division Three play-off final after they overcame a late second-half flourish to take a 36-12 win at home to Eastmoor Dragons, writes Elliot Burrow.

There was barely a minute on the clock when the evergreen Tom Sibley barged his way over down the blind side to score an unconverted try.

The home side were in again 10 minutes later, and this time Ethan Kelly found a gap and managed to burst through it to score. Postlethwaite converted from in front of the sticks and the Woolybacks now led by 10 points.

Millom were in again on the 20-minute mark and this time, prop Kelly turned provider for brother Adam to score an unconverted try from close range.

The previous week’s hat-trick hero Hanley Dawson was next to score with a magnificent solo effort which saw the centre fly 60 metres to cross underneath the posts. Postlethwaite stepped up and added the extras, increasing the score to 20-0.

The first-half scoring was not finished either as on the stroke of half-time, Joseph Wright scored after backing up a Jonathon Hodgson break. Postlethwaite converted and at half-time it was Millom who held a 26-0 lead.

The second-half was a very different affair and, this time, Eastmoor started the stronger with a try on 45 minutes through former Barrow Raiders player, Ady Mulchay. He converted his own try to make it 26-6 and give the visitors a glimmer of hope.

On the 60-minute mark, Dawson and Luke Peel were both sent-off, and this led to Declan Nicholson capitalising and scoring for Eastmoor from close range. Mulchay converted and reduced Millom’s lead to 14 points.

Millom did however, finish with a late flourish of their own to wrap up the win and secure themselves in next week’s play-off final.

Lee Postlethwaite scored out wide in the corner before youngster Dylan Sykes scored his first NCL try with a poachers’ finish in the right-hand corner.

The youngster is one of many of the players who have progressed through the youth structure and Sykes himself recently captained the A team against Roose Pioneers.

Postlethwaite converted and Millom now host Clock Face in this Saturday’s final.
