Walney Park A lead Kirkby by three points in the Sharples Lettings Furness & District Bowling League Division Three, with a home game against West Mount completing their season.

Kristian Ogilvie 21-2 and Ron Repton 21-7 laid the foundations as the league leaders returned from Hawcoat Park C with 11 points.

But rivals Kirkby, who host West Mount A in their final match, had to settle for a draw at Barrow Island A despite winning seven games. Jamie Humphrey’s 21-8 success gave the Islanders the aggregate by six chalks.

Red River A blew their promotion hopes by losing 8-6 at both Barrow Island A and Glaxo SC A, with Island’s Barry Crawford and River’s David Bell winning 21-8.

Steve Hocknell won 21-7 for West Mount in their 10-4 victory over Salthouse B, with Scott Barrow carding a 21-9 reply.

Adam Hudson and Ray McKenna 21-5, were two of six single-figure winners as West Mount A claimed 12points at home to Co-op SC B, while a 21-6 win for Andy Crabtree win failed to prevent Roose Community B going down 8-6 at West Shore A with home man Pat Fogharty winning 21-8.

The Division Three merit title race is now a two-horse race between Alan McMurray, of Walney Park A, and West Mount A bowler Ian Littlewood.

It will be McMurray’s title if he wins his last match, but if he loses and Littlewood wins the latter will claim it.
