A SHORT-handed Barrow Raiders side suffered a 64-0 defeat away to Betfred Championship leaders Toronto Wolfpack in the Saturday night game.

The Raiders, whose squad for this trip was further reduced by injury and unavailability due to work, ended up with Matty While as their only available interchange player.

Also included in the starting line-up were Chris Fleming, who came out of retirement to help his former side, and Barrow Island amateur Ben Garner.

Hosts Toronto led 24-0 at half time and pushed on when play resumed, with Blake Wallace leading the way for the home side with a hat-trick of tries.

Liam Kay and Nick Rawsthorne added two tries apiece as well, and Gareth O’Brien – who kicked seven goals – Bob Beswick, Matty Russell and Adam Sidlow went over as well.

Barrow are back in action at home to Halifax next Sunday, where head coach Paul Crarey will hope to have more players available for selection.
