Readers react after plans for national chain's first drive-thru comes to Cumbria

Plans have been submitted by Greggs to South Lakeland District Council to convert an empty plot at the Beehive Business Park on the outskirts of Ulverston, opposite the new Blue Light Hub and visible from the A590.

Brian Sinclair said: "It's getting more like America every day."

Dan Bell said: "Keep Ulverston special! We only want a drive through Thomas’s or Gillam's Tearoom!"

Jonathan Davies said: "Well that’s a climate friendly development then.

"How hard is it to walk into a shop and buy a sausage roll?

"What next drive thru banks?"

Shaun Calvert replied: "Won't need to be all online soon anyway."

Niall Whiteside said: "Honestly don't rate greggs anymore."

Steven Thomason said: "Drive through off license is what we are missing.

Gary Billington said: "That says more about the residents of Ulverston than it does the reputable businesses who are hoping to help bring jobs to the town."

Jack Jarvis said: "This is how it started in Barrow, move everything out of the town centre and kill it off. The planning application needs throwing out forthwith."

The Mail online readers said: "More should be done to build on and expand Ulverston's status as a market town with high quality independent shops. These drive through fast food chains are not welcome."
