MAIL readers have paid tribute to a ‘local legend’ of Barrow Island who sadly died.

Tributes have flooded in for grandad Brian Heavyside, who has died aged 62.

The Barrow Island resident leaves behind his two sons Jacob and Ben.

Considered a ‘local legend’ to residents for his work in the community, Mr Heavyside grew up in Walney in his younger years but lived on Barrow Island most of his life.

Mail readers have come together to pay tribute to Mr Heavyside who was described as a ‘top bloke’.

Suzie White said: “Very sad news. He was such a lovely man. RIP mate.”

Norma A Powell said: “So sorry to hear this very sad news.

“I worked with Brian at the Imperial Hotel and remember the wonderful food he cooked. Also as an ex-resident of the Island I often met him and we always had a good chat.

“RIP Brian."

Sarah Sim said: “Lovely memories of working with Bri at the Imperial Hotel, such sad news.

“He was an amazing man.”

Lori Robinson said: “This is so very sad. RIP Brian. Deepest condolences go out to the family.”

Ideas have also been put forward to construct a memorial garden in memory of Mr Heavyside on Barrow Island.

His son Jacob described him as a ‘fantastic’ grandad who will forever be in their hearts.

He said: “He was a fantastic grandad to my two sons.

“Nothing was ever an issue for him. He was the type of man that would drop anything for the people he loved.”
