My granddaughter, a nurse at Blackburn Royal Infirmary, sent her grandad a 'hug full of love' padded card to him at Ward 7, Furness General Hospital last week when he was desperately ill.
She sent its twin to me at home.
Sadly, despite the amazing care of all the staff, Allan died before he received it.
Today his matching heart arrived at my house having been forwarded to me by the Ward 7 staff.
So the two hearts are united.
What a marvellous gesture in this age of ennui to see that caring and compassion is alive and well in one of the busiest areas of the world.
Thank you for everything Ward 7.
