THERE is a misconceived perception that Barrow is stuck in the past.

The town has lots going for it and lots to be proud of.

Yes, it's at the end of one of the largest cul-de-sacs in the country.

And we all know the problems the A590 can cause - issues which appear to be making some progress after the recent debacles on the trunk road.

But that doesn't mean we should get left behind in the green travel revolution.

We are being encouraged to ditch gas-guzzling cars to join the world of electric vehicles to help cut emissions and live a cleaner life.

But before motorists take the plunge they need to be confident the infrastructure is in place to support them.

Electric cars are not a new phenomenon so it is worrying that Barrow has so far failed to act and install charging points.

According to www.zap-map.com, which charts where drivers can give their cars a boost, there are no places in Barrow.

The closest is in Ulverston, some ten miles away.

It is promising that Dave Pidduck, the leader of Barrow Council, said the authority would look at it.

Now we wait to see what actions will be taken as Barrow looks to catch up with the rest of the country and give drivers the confidence to go electric.
